Question here; Why would Buffalo give a guy who self describes his play as mediocre over 2 season with a long term contract worth 10-11 million AAV? The kid is talented no doubt, and I am sure that anyone would want him on their team. However, what has he done to warrant this kind of payday?

Based on his first 2 seasons in the league I don't think he will be top 5 yet this year. He's good, but he hasn't even been top 15 in his first 2 years. I don't think he jumps right away to top 5.

If AM earns his 10 million then that's great, I hope he becomes good enough to be the best player not named McDavid.

Money is not really an issue for Toronto.

Unfortunately we won't know as of now who is better (Canada or US).
I would have loved to seen what team the Americans would have put together. Jack, Auston, Johny, all the d carolina has and the list goes on. One sick young american team.

Plus we won a conference Championship the same year your Sabres won the PRES Trophy......youre right, a very,very long time ago.

.....at the end of the day, how are the years between 1983 and 1990 irrelevant today ,yet 2010-2016 are significant? Its not one or the other,it's both are or neither are which is fine because McDavid and the Oilers TODAY are way better than Eichel and the Sabres TODAY.


Edit: so by taking away Edmontons greatest 11 years and only including the seasons that followed, they missed 16 of 26 times. In that same time Span the Sabres missed 12 times......and that includes some of the greatest Sabres teams in the History of your franchise. Awesome!!!

If Matthews makes 10 mln it will be because he earned it... not because he was worth 8.5 and his team had to pay him the "having to live in buffalo" premium as compensation to keep him around...
